Author Interview with Cherrie Mack
I’m interviewing Cherrie Mack today, author of fantasy romance “Inconceivable”. Welcome to my blog, Cherrie!
When did you know you wanted to be an author?
Looking back, I can say with confidence, it was in seventh grade English class. We had a substitute. Well, of course, in seventh grade this was cause for celebration. But he was one of those subs that handed out an assignment, opened the newspaper and had hope forty minutes later you completed it. The task was creative writing—I had to make up a story. For some reason that day, I was in the zone. I created a science fiction story, complete with world building and character development. Who knew? I never did such a thing before. After I handed in my work (before the bell) I watched the substitute teacher read it. He looked enthralled but I was just happy I did the work. Bell rang. I got up to move on to my next class. He stopped me. “You should follow this path. You’re very good.” he said. My reply was a nonchalant, “Thanks.” But seriously? What did this old guy know? He must be at least 35. Little did I know, some twenty something years later, I would follow his advice.
What inspired you to write Inconceivable?
Inconceivable was previously published under the title, “My Sister’s Shoes.” My publisher, at the time, was looking for a different spin on fairytale romances. My spin was to make the fairy godmother a tattooed biker complete with nose ring and long hair. This story is one of my favorites. As in most of my books, the underlying lesson is, you cannot judge a book by its cover. People are different. Embrace everyone’s kindness whether they let their freak flag fly or not. If there is love and kindness, there is tolerance for all. So, when I received my rights back, I recovered and retitled it according to my own taste. I’m hoping more readers will discover and enjoy it.
What is your editing process like?
Most times I write a book, reread, make adjustments and submit. My editor will then point out any misgivings she may have regarding the story. For instance, when I first wrote Inconceivable, the ending left you wanting more. It was my editor who requested I rewrite it. And it became a much better piece. It also helps when your author friend says, “What the hell? I wanna know his reaction to her as well. Give me more.” Now that I am jumping into the indie ring, my process will remain the same but I’m sure I will have to wait a bit longer for the editor I want.
Who is your favorite character from your book?
From this book, it would most definitely be, Angelo. He is fun, sensitive, loving and an all-around good guy. I liked creating a physical appearance most would assume belonged to a rough and tough man with a mean streak. He kinda shocks you but in a good way.
Did you set any writing goals for 2015? Did you meet any so far?
I set goals, mostly in my head. This past year has been an off year for my writing so—no. I haven’t met my goals. I believe I wrote so much, so quickly, I burned out. But, I’m happy to report, I’m back to creating the stories I love to read with the hopes of finding readers who like what I have to offer.
Are you working on something now? If so, can you tell us a little about it?
Yes. I am working on quite a few WIPs. My writing takes me across genres. I started out writing erotic contemporary and I am currently in the final phases of one such story, “Shattered Innocence.”
Jules Worthington is a young writer looking for the story of her career. She gets her chance during the course of research at a local swing club when she meets sexy, damaged Raymond Armstrong. Author Bio
Cherrie Mack is a multi-published romance author who grew up in Flushing Queens NY, the youngest child of six. The city’s diversity gave her a great appreciation for many different cultures and lifestyles. After love finally claimed the girl from the city and dragged her to the suburban madness of Long Island, she settled into a quiet life with her new husband. Two children and one mini-van later, the family found themselves moving towards the sunny skies of Florida where they currently reside.
Cherrie is happiest sitting behind a keyboard doing the one thing she loves most—writing. However, when she isn’t writing, she is struggling to man her website, promote her books, keep up with social media and run a household. She loves to hang out with her 12 and 10 year old kids and spend time with her smart, sexy, fun loving husband. She struggles to master the art of meditation but with so many people living inside her head, demanding a story of their own, the task is daunting. She takes time to relax by playing with her best friends–Bailey and Simba.
Cherrie continues to flourish, writing contemporary erotic romance, romantic comedy, urban fantasy, paranormal romance and her latest venture into sci-fi. Her ability to cross genre’s fuels her imagination and gives her the desire to continue to push her boundaries and branch out as a writer. Although she hasn’t settled into any given sub-genre, she is confident her ability will lead her down the right path.
A member of Romance Writers of America, Cherrie is slowly spreading her wings as a romance author. Look for her books at all digital bookstores such as Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Bookstrand, ITunes, Nook, Kobo and many more.
