Author Interview with Rebecca Moore

I’m hosting an interview today with Rebecca Moore, author of “Mothering Through Bipolar”, a memoir that talks about mental health issues. Welcome to my blog, and thanks to the author for answering my questions.

Author Interview

When did you know you wanted to be an author?
Since I was in Kindergarten. I can remember trying to put a book together then, but I was too young and it became frustrating. Once I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder I immediately started a blog and later went on to write Mothering Through Bipolar.

Where did you get the inspiration for Mothering Through Bipolar?
From the lack of personal stories and inspiration out there about mental illness in general. Being a parent is hard work. Add in a mental illness and your job is practically impossible. I wanted to give mothers hope that it can be done.

What is your editing process like?
My editor and I work very close together. We do two to three passes over the book until we have it just right. We omit some information and add some information in.

Who is your favorite character from the book?
My children! They are my inspiration and the reason I fight every day.

What are your writing goals for 2015?
I plan on getting “Embracing Madness” out in late summer and another self-help book out in later 2015. “Path to Mental Health Wellness” is for anyone with a mental illness to help them on their road to recovery.

Are you working on something now? If so, can you tell us a little about it?
“Embracing Madness” is in the editing process right now. My editor is doing her first pass over the book and then we’ll get to work changing things and making things better. I’m really excited about this next memoir. It’s a walk through my childhood and shows how early mental illness can rear it’s ugly head in some people. It shows my struggles and what I was able to make of my life despite my pleas being ignored.
