Blogging from A to Z Challenge: H is for Having a Blast
“H” is actually difficult to start a topic about. I had to brainstorm a little before I could start writing this post, but I decided to blog about having a blast. Because, in the end, isn’t that what this is all about?
When writing becomes a chore, then there’s nothing fun about it anymore. Of course my attitude toward writing changed the last few years. A while back, I wrote just because I wanted to. I had no hopes about getting published. Then it happened, and well, it changed my writing. I wasn’t just writing for fun, or for my own entertainment anymore. Suddenly I was writing for an audience. There were deadlines, obligations, reviews, and writing turned from a hobby into something that vaguely resembles a job.
But it’s still not a chore.
Because I don’t want to write just because I have to. All right, some days I have to force myself to write, but once I get started, I still love it every bit as much as I did several years ago. If I wanted to do a job that felt like a chore, well, there are plenty of jobs around that’ll fit the bill.
But I write because while I’m writing, I’m having a blast. For a while, I get to be someone else, and do all these amazing things I’d never get to do in real life. Like slaying ghosts, or making deals with demons, or battling zombie arms, and heck, occassionally even saving the world. And if I wasn’t having fun, then how could my readers ever enjoy my books?
Speaking of writing, I’ve got a manuscript to get back to. Time to battle some ghosts.
