Author Interview with Christina George
I’m interviewing author Christina George today, the author of contemporary romance novel “Shelf Life”. Thank you for answering my questions, Christina!
Author Interview
When did you know you wanted to become an author?
I actually didn’t, I have been working with authors as a publicist all of my career and I never really wanted to write, then one day I realized I had a story to tell – in fact several. So that’s what started me on this writing career (though it’s not a career till HBO calls and wants to turn your book into a series, right?). Anyway, I love, love, love writing and readers seem to love Kate’s adventures in publishing.
Where did you get the inspiration for Shelf Life?
It’s actually from real life. 90% of the stories in The Publicist, Book one and Shelf Life, The Publicist Book Two actually happened though the names were changed to protect the guilty, as it were.
How long did it take you to write Shelf Life from start to finish?
Candidly I wrote Shelf Life in a week, last year between Christmas and New Year. I don’t normally write that fast but this book just flowed.
Well, I don’t self-edit – ever. I have an editor, she’s fantastic. If she ever stopped editing I’d have to stop writing. She’ll typically do two passes on a content edit and then I’ll send it to someone to do a line edit, after that someone does a copy edit. I know it’s a lot but your book is your resume.
What was the most challenging part about writing Shelf Life?
Deciding what author stories to include and what not to include. I’ve been doing publicity for 20 years so I have a lot, a lot of stories. I didn’t want to make it about me just rambling, though readers do love the crazy author stories!
What are your writing goals for 2014?
Well, I’d like to put out another book. So, book three in the series and we’ll see what happens with Mac, Nick, and Kate.
Are you working on something right now? If so, can you tell us more about it?
I started Book Three — maybe I’ll get on a writing frenzy like I did last year and finish it in a week- ha, that would be fantastic. But seriously, I think that for Kate there are more stories to tell and everyone who wrote said that they loved Nick and wanted him to have a happy ending, maybe he’ll get one on Book Three.

The story only an insider could tell.
Publishing: An industry of out-of-control of egos, unrealistic expectations, and books with the shelf life of milk.
This is Kate’s world, but for how long?
When one of Kate Mitchell’s star authors is carted away in handcuffs, she thinks it’s only the beginning of her troubles. As her world crumbles around her, Kate desperately looks for anyone to hold onto but finds that happy endings are truly works of fiction. When her career and love affair hit their expiration date, Kate sets off on a new adventure….
Starting over in California is easy, but Kate soon learns that leaving her old life behind isn’t. Nicholas Lavigne is eager to help her forget, but two things still own her heart, the dream of discovering the next great American novel, and MacDermott Ellis.
As Kate tries to rebuild her life she finds a surprising gift that reboots her career in a new and unexpected direction. Suddenly her name becomes synonymous with one of the biggest bestsellers publishing has seen in ages and she’s welcomed back with open arms. At the height of her success the ghosts of her past come back to remind her of the world she’d been trying to forget and the man who never let go of her heart.
Behind the book, there’s always more to the story.
Welcome to Publishing, the ego has landed.

Author Bio
I’ve worked in publishing for twenty years (give or take). Here’s what this book isn’t. It’s not a slam against publishing (though it is broken) and it’s not a slam against authors (though some of them are crazy). This book is not autobiographical though many of the stories are true. No you won’t know which ones, hell it’s more fun to guess, right? I continue to work in publicity and help authors because at the end of the day I do love books, I love publishing, and I love authors. I hope you’ll enjoy this romp through Kate’s world as much as I enjoyed creating it.
