Author Interview

1) When did you know you wanted to become an author?
My mom taught me how to read when I was four years old and I feel in love with books. When I was five, I asked her to help me write my first “novel” and I’ve been writing ever since!
2) Where did you get the inspiration for Fire on Ice and The Playmaker?
My husband was born and raised in Canada and he’s a hockey fanatic. I occasionally watch hockey with him and I’ve always found hockey players quite sexy. I decided to write a series featuring a hockey player as the love interest. Of course, to add conflict, the main female character needed to be someone, who hates hockey and would never date a hockey player.
3) How long did it take you to write each of these books from start to finish?
For the past year, I’ve been writing a novel every month. Fire on Ice took the full month but The Playmaker took me three weeks.
4) What is your editing process like?
Usually a week or two after I complete the first draft, I do a rewrite and then a polish. Once I feel good about the story, I send it to my editor and she provides feedback and then I send it to my proofreader for final edits.
5) What was the most challenging part about writing the books?
I’ve never been a victim of sexual assault, so I had to do a lot of research not only about the legal and medical aspects but also the psychological issues people deal with. Research can be very time comsuming and takes away from writing time.
6) What are your writing goals for 2014?
My 2013 goal of 12 novels in 12 months was ambitious and didn’t leave me much personal time. So, for 2014, I’m going to work on a novel every 6 weeks.
7) Are you working on something right now? If so, can you tell us more about it?
I’m currently working on a contemporary romance called Community Service. I wasn’t planning on the love interest using a wheel chair but when he appeared, he used one! Then the task was to make him sexy, wheelchair and all. I’ve also had to do a lot of research on spinal cord injuries, which has been enlightening.
