NaNoWriMo Progress #1: Rocking the Word Count Levels

I’m going to give you my first NaNoWriMo update for the year, and so far, so good. I’ve decided to be a rebel – because I’m awesome like that – and to work on two projects at once, namely Allegro Academy – Adagio and Deals with Demons. The first one is YA gothic horror, while the second is YA Paranormal Romance.

I’ve reached 25k in Allegro Academy – Adagio so far, and things are great, even if I still have no idea where I’m going with the book. Secrets are piling up, we’ve got the dark mansion resembling a labyrinth, even though it’s now a music academy, we have the faint whispers in the dead of night, the noises coming from the closed-off attic and an east wing no one is allowed to enter anymore. The progress has been great because the main character, Alanis, reminds me so much of myself. It’s always nice when you get to put a lot of yourself in a character as an author. Some characters I absolutely love, but they’re nothing like me. Alanis is a bit closer to home, and that makes me want to write her story even more.

Deals with Demons clocked in at 10k tonight, and I’m happy with the progress. The heroine for this book, Meghan, is a complex character to write about, as are the other main characters Kaeden and Chase. I feel like I haven’t fleshed Kaeden out enough, and his personality seems to change slightly at times, both things I’ll have to work on.

How’s your NaNoWriMo going if you’re participating? Any road blocks already, or are you rocking your word count as well? Good luck, everyone!
