I’m interviewing Inglath Cooper, author of contemporary romance “Blue Wide Sky”. Welcome to my blog, an thanks for answering my questions.

Author Interview

When did you decide you wanted to be an author?
When I was nine and wrote my first story on my mom’s old manual typewriter. It was a story about a pony named Sunny and the little girl who desperately wanted her for her own. (Based on life experience, of course!) I had a reader audience of one — my mom — and she thought it was wonderful! Even though she was biased, I was hooked on the idea of writing stories that others might enjoy the way I enjoyed books.
Where did you get the inspiration for Blue Wide Sky?
Blue Wide Sky takes place on Smith Mountain Lake, a place I have loved my whole life. It’s the first book in a series of that name, and I’m really enjoying writing about characters who come to know and love the lake as well.
I’ve always loved second chance stories, and Gabby and Sam get exactly that in Blue Wide Sky. They met young, fell in love but were separated when Sam’s parents moved out of the country for work. They meet again as adults with fully developed lives. They realize they still love each other,  but it may be too late.
What is your editing process like?
My goal is to get through a complete first draft of a book before I go back and start editing. I find if I draft a story quickly, it tends to flow better. Once I’ve completed it, I let it “rest” for a week or two and then go back through several times until I feel like it’s ready to hand over to an editor. Once I get the edited version back, I make the changes and then read through the book on my iPad until I can’t find any typos!
What are your writing goals for 2015?
I am working on two series, Nashville, which currently has eight books and also my new Smith Mountain series. Dragonfly Summer is the second book in this series, out this summer.
What is your absolute favorite part about writing? What is your least favorite part?
My favorite part about writing is the building of a story. Watching the pages accumulate, the characters develop and lives unfold within the framework of a book. I love hearing from readers who in some way identify with a character or get something meaningful from the way they’ve dealt with life.
My least favorite part of writing would be that window of time between the release of a book and starting to receive reader responses!
Are you working on something now? If so, can you tell us a little about it?
I’ve just finished Dragonfly Summer, Book Two in the Smith Mountain series. Next, I’ll be working on Nashville – Part Nine – You, Me and a Palm Tree.
Thank you for the opportunity to connect with your readers!

About the Book

SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE SERIES-2Title: Blue Wide Sky

Author: Inglath Cooper

Genre: Contemporary Romance

First love. . . forever love.

Sixteen-year old Gabby Hayden wasn’t the kind of girl who gave a hoot about boys. She had a few real loves. Water-skiing, going out on Smith Mountain Lake with her dad and her dog. Anything else ranked a distant second. Until the summer smart, caring, gorgeous Sam Tatum gave her his heart. It had been the most wonderful time of her life, lazy days hanging out at the dock, skinny-dipping at midnight, staring up at the stars from the back of Sam’s truck.

They are planning their future together when Sam’s father is transferred to South Africa. Devastated, Gabby and Sam promise to wait for each other during the two years before he returns for college. But lonely and angry, Sam makes a mistake that will change the course of both their lives.

Years later, an unexpected diagnosis brings Sam home to his parents’ house on Smith Mountain Lake where he believes he can find peace and acceptance. What he finds, however, is the girl he once loved, now a woman unwilling to lose him again, a woman who will make him realize that both love and life are worth fighting for.
