Blogging A to Z Challenge: X is for X-Files

XThe A to Z challenge is a challenge in which bloggers post every day during the entire month, and each day has a post starting with a different letter of the alphabet. The first day, the post features “A”, the second day “B”, and so on. It’s much better explained on the Blogging from A to Z website, so I’ll just refer you there.

The X-Files was one of the most influential shows of my childhood, right next to Buffy, The Vampire Slayer. Technically, I wasn’t allowed to watch The X-Files at the time. I was a kid, and it was for grown ups, but whenever I could sneak in time to watch an episode, I did. I remember when a marathon passed by our house one night, and my Mom was outside watching and talking to the neighbors, and I stayed upstairs watching the X-Files. If she’d known, she would’ve been so mad. And it happened to be one scary episode too, so I spent most of the time hiding behind a pillow.

But the X-Files taught me a lot of things. Mulder and Scully were ordinary people who had to fight extraordinary things, yet every time, they kept on going. Nobody believed Mulder’s theories, yet that didn’t stop him. And they made a great team. The X-Files inspired me to write supernatural fiction, to write about things that can’t be real – because God knows, maybe Mulder is right and it’s real after all.

What TV shows influenced your writing?
