Author Interview with Sarah Daltry

I’m interviewing Sarah Daltry on my blog today, author of “Orange Blossom”, a new adult contemporary romance. Thanks for answering my interview questions, Sarah, and welcome to my blog.

When did you know you wanted to become an author?

I don’t know. I always loved books. It wasn’t really a decision, just a natural step. I always read and I always wrote.

Where did you get the inspiration for Orange Blossom?

I’ve been there. A very hefty percentage of this series comes from my own life and experiences.

What is your editing process like?

I edit as I go. I will not move forward on a scene until I’m happy with it. It can be a challenge, because I get stuck for that reason. Once it’s done, editing is usually fast, because I send it to my editors and then I immediately dive in and revise. However, since most of the scenes have been written about 20 times at least before they go out, it ends up being minimal during that stage. I don’t publish a first draft, but I don’t really have several drafts, because each scene is revised to death before another is written.

What was the most challenging part about writing this book?

Being in Jack’s head emotionally is hard for me, because I live it. It’s been hard to work on these books.

What are your writing goals for 2014?

Finish the things I have in progress.

Are you working on something right now? If so, can you tell us about it?

For several years, I have been writing a YA fantasy novel and it’s around 60K words right now. I just can’t seem to finish it, because I get stuck. I have beta readers helping me now and I am going to finish it this month. I only need to write the ending (well, around 20K words!). I just need to clean out my WIP folder and finish what I have started.

About the Book

young pretty kissing wedding couple against skyTitle: Orange Blossom

Author: Sarah Daltry

Genre: Contemporary New Adult Romance

“I’ve never understood a year. A year was always a measurement of something bad for me. A year in my father’s prison sentence, a year since my mom’s death, a year left of school before I could get far, far away from here. Now, as I look down the end of my college career, with only a little more than a semester to go, a year seems like something magical. It has been a year since Lily chose me, since she sat with me on the old swing set and made a decision that I was worthy of her. And every minute of the entire year has been better than the last.”

You already know their stories: Lily, the perfect princess, always living someone else’s life. And Jack, the broken boy, who had stopped believing in hope. Somehow, though, they found each other and what was one night blossomed into a love story.

Now, a year later, Jack and Lily are dreaming of the future. Despite all of his promises to himself that he would never be indebted to anyone, Jack makes a new promise – this time to Lily – that he will be there for her forever. But when life unravels for them, he starts to pull away, and Lily worries he’s out of reach for good.

When Jack does the unthinkable, Lily is left destroyed. Is it possible to have a happily ever after? Does love ever really save anyone?
