Author Interview with Danielle-Claude Ngontang Mba

Hey, everyone. Today I’m interviewing Danielle-Claude Ngontang Mba, author of a series of mystery novels involving Sémya Slotin. Her books are called “Bird of Prey” and “The Plot Thickens”. Welcome to my blog, Danielle-Claude, and thanks for answering my questions today.

Author Interview

When did you know you wanted to become an author?

This is a very good one, I was fourteen. But I was told that nobody reads anymore so I went to film school instead. So much time wasted…

Where did you get the inspiration for your series?

In my mind really… Sémya Slotin was supposed to be a regular nosy sleuth with a very sexy edge and then I just decided to let caution out of the window and create this unusual cast. You would not believe the things I will put her and her friends through.

What is your editing process like?

I loathe this part and most of my fellow writers friends do too (we have big long chats about it on Facebook). I usually try to edit my WIP at least twice before finishing it. Then I’ll add another couple of rounds before sending it to my editor. I might try another tactic with my current WIP and just send it to my editor sooner instead of hogging it.

What was the most challenging part about writing your series?

RESEARCH… Sémya is criminologist. I just play one in my head. I need to know these things.  Poison, dead bodies, guns, speaking Russian, speaking German, fighting… Hail to the Internet!

What are your writing goals for 2014?

I’m very ambition this year. My goal is to publish five novels. I’ve already published one in January, the second one is with my editor and third one if my current work in progress. Four of these five books are Sémya Slotin Mystery novels and novella.

Are you working on something right now? If so, can you tell us about it.

I’m currently working on Josh’s book for the Sémya Slotin Mystery it would be the forth one of the series. For those who read Bird Of Prey and The Plot Thickens, this one will be about how and why he met Sémya in Hawaii. It would be the third and final instalment the Bird Of Prey saga… but not the series. The second instalment Polliannah Got Married is currently being edited.

Who killed the infamous Johanna Cartier? Sémya Slotin is thrown back in the business of solving mysteries when she found her body. With the help of her best friend Polliannah Koch, DCI Ally Gibbons and the mysterious but extremely sexy Josh Heinz, she vows to see this through.

This was supposed to be an easy case…

Sémya Slotin had spent the last three years living in London with her best friend Polliannah Koch staying away from solving cases. After Hawaii, she was taking a break from puzzles, cases and mysteries that could potentially get her killed. Instead, she had been doing her second and third favorite things, drinking and selling expensive vintage wines and having earth-shattering sex with the mysterious, sexy, beautiful but ever so secretive Josh Heinz. Life in London was good….until her funds ran out. Too much wine drinking, not enough wine selling!

When fashion designer and adoptive mother, Annika Slotin, summoned her back to Paris to hire her for what Sémya considered being the easiest case of her amateur sleuth career, all she could think of and see was money signs and a well-deserved Cuban holiday once it was solved.

What Sémya didn’t see was her stumbling on the fresh corpse of supermodel Johanna Cartier. She didn’t think that male model turned fashion designer Julian Marais-Caldwin, who also happened to be Sémya’s ex, would be suspected of brutally murdering her. Johanna was his girlfriend, his muse and he loved her. Sémya didn’t see the dead bodies piling up or the conspiracy theories.

Sémya was a little rusty. But then again, it was supposed to be an easy case and she was going to solve it. One vintage wine at a time… Sémya Slotin was officially back in business!
