Author Interview with Christine Blackthorn

I’m interview Christine Blackthorn today, author of paranormal romance novella “By My Choice”. Thansk for answering my questions, Christine!

Author Interview

When did you know you wanted to become an author?

I don’t think I see myself as an author – I see myself as a storyteller.

Where did you get the inspiration for By My Choice?

Actually, it was reactions to the manuscript of the novel “A Variety of Chains” (which is coming out in May). “By my choice” is a background to that and a friend demanded it should have its own story.

What is your editing process like?

Reading, reading, reading – lots of highlighters and post-it notes. Oh, and bribing other people into becoming my beta-readers.

What was the most challenging part about writing By My Choice?

I am not sure I can say anything was challenging. Other parts of my life are challenging and demanding – but when I write I find a refuge from all that.

What are your writing goals for 2014?

There are two full novels set in the same world as “By my choice” on my desk in desperate need of editing. Also there is a sci-fi novel I can simply not get out of my head.

Are you working on something at the moment? If so, can you tell us more about it?

I am finishing up work on the other novella in the “By my choice” world – “By my side…”. It is a story about orcs – the supernatural courts have bred them as slaves for centuries. They have no culture, they have no perception of orcishness, they have no homes – they are little better than property. Imagine what an ErGer, a person who holds in their very being the sensation of home, of comfort, of protection, would mean to them.

By My Choice

By My Choice ...Title: By My Choice

Author: Christine Blackthorn

Genre: Erotic Romance

Sometimes the path of life seems inevitable — what does it mean to choose?

Jennifer Ashton has spent her whole life in one Supernatural court or the other but the realities of what this means are only brought home to her when her best friend is forced to sell her to a vampire, and not any vampire, but one she knows well. Caught in the double betrayal of friendship and love she needs to decide what her life is going to be.

Jennifer is a financial manager, her control over every aspect of her own life complete. She does not allow anything to upset her rationality, no emotion, no sensation, no desire. The only weakness she has accepted is her unlimited loyalty to her best friend, the friend who betrays her by selling her to a competitor. She joins her new master in Paris where she begins to realise that he has as little choice as she does. Can she accept that by giving up everything, by giving him everything, they might both regain their lives?

This novella is an erotic romance with elements of mild bondage.

Author Bio

imagemesmallIn “real” life, I am an academic with degrees in Political Science, Economics, Philosophy and Law and an insatiable desire to confound, baffle and disconcert my students. Someone once suggested to me the reason for my stories lay in the desire to offset the tedium and rationality of academic life. He wasn’t an academic or he would have known better.  It is best to use research against tedium, students to offset the rationality and an unlimited supply of stressballs for the faculty meetings. The stories? Well, they are just for me – like a mental manicure.
