Author Interview with Cindy Lyle
I’m interviewing author Cindy Lyle on my blog today. Cindy is the author of fantasy novel “The Dragon Within”, the first book in The Creation Chronicles series. Thank you for answering my questions, Cindy!
When did you know you wanted to become an author?
I always knew I wanted to write, even in elementary school, but it took a long time for me to get the courage. It wasn’t until I had my first draft of The Dragon Within done that I realized maybe I could actually do this. Now I can’t imagine doing anything else.
Where did you get the inspiration for The Dragon Within?
I read a lot, so I always have ideas running through my mind. The main plot of The Dragon Within actually came to me in a crazy dream. I woke up and for some reason I wanted to write down what I could remember and the story spawned from there.
How long did it take you to write The Dragon Within from start to finish?
I guess I would have to say that it took about a year and a half on and off. I am a stay at home mom but sometimes I don’t have the time to think, let alone write. There were some days I would write pages and then others where I was lucky if I got to dot an I!
What is your editing process like?
A mess! LOL. I hate editing, but I learned through the first publication of The Dragon Within that it is nothing to take lightly. I had at least four or five drafts before I sent it into get edited (punctuation, grammar, and spelling) and another two after that. Trust me writing the story is the easy part. Editing will cause you to turn grey!
What was the most challenging part about writing The Dragon Within?
The most challenging part for me was believing in myself. I knew I had a great story to tell, but getting over the fear of rejection is mind blowing. I was terrified no one would like the book and that everyone would laugh at me. But if this experience has taught me anything it’s not to sell yourself short. Yes there are people who are not going to like my book, but that’s natural. Not everyone likes the same things. It’s the people that do like my book and can’t wait for the sequel that boost my confidence. It’s for those people that I’m proud to call myself an author and I will keep writing as long as they want to read.
What are your writing goals for 2014?
My writing goals for 2014 are to get my butt in gear and finish writing book two of The Creation Chronicles!
Are you working on something right now? If so, can you tell us more about it?
Right now I’m working on Book two which I think is going to be called The Dragon Calls. It will focus mainly on the two main characters who become separated and must find a way back to each other.
About The Book
Author: Cindy Lyle
Deep within the mortal world of Eiddoril, war rages and the blood of innocents flows freely. Once protected by the four elements—Earth, Fire, Water and Air—Eiddoril was a peaceful, beautiful land. Now, after three hundred years of being ravaged by an evil lord and abandoned by their creators, the people and land are dying.
In the kingdom of Gareth, an orphan girl is raised as one of the royal family. But when she begins to have vivid nightmares it leads her to question where she really came from. Her questions lead her to Fitch, an old magic user, who helps her discover a shocking truth. Karah is not human, but instead part of a long-forgotten race. Desiring answers, she sets out to uncover the secrets of her past, and defeat the enemy wreaking havoc across the land.
In this fantasy tale, Karah must somehow find the strength to fulfill a destiny that has been forced upon her and discover the dragon within. She cannot fail. The future of creation depends on her.
I grew up in a small town called Uxbridge which is located in Ontario, Canada. I have been around horses my whole life, and I love the outdoors (as long as there is no snow, I hate winter!). I now live in Ajax with my husband Joe and our two children, Hannah and Josh. I love to read and when I find the time, write. I love fantasy and have a pretty intense collection of dragons, weapons and anything else my husband considers strange! I hope to one day publish the full series of Karahs adventures and who knows maybe one day I’ll be someone’s favorite author.
