Author Interview with Shyla Colt

castthecards

I’m hosting an interview with Shyla Colt, the author of romantic suspense novel “Cast The Cards”. Enjoy the interview!

1) When did you know you wanted to become an author?

I’m not sure when, but I knew it was at a young age. If you go back to the old school what do you want to be projects of pre-teen years  listed on my pages is Author.

2) Where did you get the inspiration from for Cast The Cards?

A combination of too many Bones episodes during a marathon and a desire to do something different from my past books  mixed together and birthed Clark the ghost, and his lost love, FBI Agent, Savannah West. The rest came after that.

 3) How long did it take you to write Cast The Cards from start to finish?

I’d say with editing, about two months.

4) What is your editing process like?

My editor is unbelievable, and she really took the entire tale to another level. Love you Em Petrova. I learned so much working with her and actually tightened up my writing style in general. Think of editing as a boot camp for writers. It’s painful, and you ache, but you come out better for it, and proud of yourself.

5) What was the most challenging part about writing Cast The Cards?

Finding the balance between pertinent information that would interest the reader, and move the story forward without flooding them with too much information at one time. With suspense,  it’s similar to mystery. You want to give the clues bit by bit, so when it comes together, it’s a complete puzzle piece that they’ve seen coming without realizing. That was a hard feat to accomplish.

6) What are your writing goals for 2013?

I’d like to have a Christmas story, and complete the first part of my Purgatory series. The second book releases late August, and I have one more to go, so I’m awful close. * smiles.

7) Are you working on something right now? If so, can you tell us more about it?

Right now I’m working on a short piece set in a small, southern, town where Oil drilling is the main source of income. It’s gritty, raw, and the hero, Ty is a masculine man with a painful life he’s spent too many years running from. When he meets Maci in Dolly’s Diner he realizes it’s time to start living once more.

Maci is the daughter of the town drunk. On her own from the time she was seventeen, she’s tough, independent, and allergic to commitment. When Ty swaggers into town and gains her interest she knows she’s in trouble.

I would give a title, but for me that’s ofeten the last thing I decide on.
