Author Interview with S.L. Morgan

I’m hosting an interview today with S.L. Morgan, the author of YA Fantasy Romance “Ancient Guardians”. Thank you for appearing on my blog, S.L. Morgan!

1) When did you know you wanted to become an author?

I realized it was finally time to write a novel series of my own after I struggled to find another book series that I could get excited about.

2) How long did it take you to write Ancient Guardians: Legacy of the Key from start to finish?

From start to finish, it took me roughly four months to write The Legacy of the Key. The rewrites and edits took much longer to do than actually writing the first draft.

3) Who was your favorite character to write about?

Reece would be my favorite, as she was my biggest challenge. In my opinion, the female protagonist in a novel will either be loved or hated. I wanted readers to love and enjoy Reece; and with that, I had to be sure that she didn’t come across as weak, whiney, or too dramatic. I also had to make sure she didn’t come across as “too perfect.”

4) What are your writing goals for 2013?

To introduce more readers to the Ancient Guardians Series. My second book is undergoing the editing process, and I’m hopeful it will be published by late summer. Once that is complete, I look forward to beginning the edit of the third book in my series. I have already started writing the fourth book, and while the third book is being edited, (with any luck) I will have book four completed by the end of the year.

5) What is your editing process like?

When it came to editing this novel, I learned very quickly that writing the book is the easy part. The editing process can be extremely grueling. I work closely with my editor, and we go over every detail with a fine-tooth comb. I need to do this in order to ensure that the story is flowing well and will keep the reader engaged. Sometimes that consists of rewriting a section of the book, or deleting a section completely. The editing process is the biggest challenge I have as an author.

6) Are you working on something right now? If so, can you tell us more about it?

I am currently writing in the fourth book of my series. Without giving anything away, I can say that the series continues to follow Levi and Reece as they deal with numerous conflicts and go on many interesting adventures.

Author Bio

S.L. Morgan was born and raised in California. After 29 years of living in the Sierra Nevada Mountains there, she and her husband began their journeys of moving throughout the United States. She currently lives in Texas, where she and her husband are raising their three children.
In October of 2011, S.L. Morgan became inspired to write her new novel series, “Ancient Guardians.” With her passion and love for Jane Austen and other classic romance novels, she was motivated to write a novel series of her own. The Legacy of the Key is the first book in her novel series, taking readers not only into a new magical dimension—but giving them a feeling that they have been transported back in time—into England’s seventeenth century.

With her second novel in this series nearing its release date late this summer, S.L. Morgan is currently writing in the third novel of the Ancient Guardians series, and excited to bring her readers on more adventures and journeys, with these characters.
