Author Interview with Christy Gissendaner and Release Day Party

ahotmess

We’re celebrating the release day party for A Hot Mess today, a contemporary romance novel by author Christy Gissendaner. I asked Christy some interview questions and below you can read an excerpt as well!

The Interview

1)      When did you know you wanted to be an author?

I’ve always written, even when I was a little girl. My goal when I was a pre-teen was to win a Nobel Peace Prize in literature. I’m sure I’m never going to win writing my type of genre, but it’s still nice to dream!

2)      Why contemporary romance?

Hmm…that’s a hard one because I actually write historical too under my pen name, Robin Danner. But as Christy, contemporaries just seemed to fit. I love keeping my two writing personalities separate. Readers will notice my contemporaries are usually light-hearted and fun which fits the persona I’ve cultivated as “Christy Gissendaner”.

3)      How did you come up with the inspiration behind ‘A Hot Mess’?

The title came first and everything just snowballed from there. I knew Vegas had to be the setting, since it’s a locale I visit again and again in my writing. I was actually answering a Valentine’s Day submission call and I wanted the trope of best friends to lover. So ‘A Hot Mess’ just came to be! I’m not much of a plotter, so the story just developed as I wrote it.

4)      How long did it take you to write the book from start to finish?

For this one, it was about two or three weeks. It probably would’ve been longer had I not had a “word count race” with my pals Elle Rush and Vristen Pierce.

5)      What is your editing process like?

My self-editing is probably not the best in the world. After I finish writing my first draft, I go back and examine each paragraph. I usually end up adding thousands of words to the manuscript, which I don’t go back and edit a second time. But Liquid Silver Books has a very good editing team which works with me if my books need extra polishing.

6)      Who was your favorite character to write about?

Cait was a blast to write! She’s gutsy and totally clueless when it comes to how attractive Dylan finds her.

7)      Are you working on something right now? Can you tell us more about it?

I’m always working on something! Right now, I’m writing book 2 in my Out of Bounds series. ‘A Touch is Sin’, the first book in the series, is coming to Liquid Silver Books in March and I’m getting close to wrapping up ‘Some Kind of Trouble’. This series features an all-paranormal team of football players…but at a later point in their lives. It’s cool how each player’s life evolved after graduating college.

Thanks for the interview, Christy!
