Author Interview with Olivia Hardin
1) When did you know you wanted to become a writer?
I’m pretty sure I was around 14 or 15. I started scribbling in little spiral notebooks and it was an infatuation. As an adult I sort of let go of that dream for a while, but once it came back to me it has been so wonderfully fulfilling.
2) What was the inspiration behind Shifty Business and its series?
Shifty was born out of the need to know what the deal was with Nicky and Gerry. When I wrote book one of my trilogy, Witch Way Bends, I never intended a trilogy, but there were all of these great characters and I just needed to discover who they were. Nicky and Gerry were the biggest mystery of all, so I knew their story had to be one chock full of secrets revealed on all sides.
3) What is the most challenging part about writing for you?
Time. It seems whenever I have the strongest inspiration, I don’t have the time and when I have the time my inspiration gets stymied. It’s a matter of discipline now, to buckle down and write each day no matter what.
4) Who was your favorite character to write about?
Langston is my favorite character. He’s stable, he’s strong, he’s dependable. For his team he gives them a strong foundation and in fact he does the same for me. When I’m having a hard time writing, if I bring him into a scene I know things will get back on track.
5) If you could have a cup of coffee with three authors (dead or alive), which ones would you choose?
Ooo, good question! My three favorite books and their authors: Gary Jennings, author of Aztec; Karleen Koen, author of Through a Glass Darkly and Robert Heinlein, author of Glory Road. I would bolt the doors to the coffee house so they couldn’t escape and hold them hostage for hours!
6) Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?
If it’s your dream, find a way to make it happen. The best way to ensure you will make it happen is to find a support group. You need writers and non-writers. Folks who will prop you when you feel down, kick you in the rear when you get off track and pat you on the back when you just can’t take it anymore.
7) Are you working on something right now? If so, can you tell us more about it?
Ooo! I love this part. I have so many irons in the fire and I’m so excited about all of them. Right now I’m finishing up a contemporary romance called All for Hope through Hayson Publishing. Right after that I’m going to get back to Tangled Up in Trouble, the second in my MAUCs Series. And then later this year I’ll start the For Love of Fae Trilogy which will continue the story began in the Bend-Bite-Shift Trilogy! Lots of exciting stuff going on!
Sounds great! Thank you for the interview, Olivia!
About Shifty Business
Author: Olivia Hardin
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Gerry Hinton thought she had the perfect career as an operative for the Company. Her next assignment should have been another “mission accomplished”, but hell was delivering hand baskets that day.
When a little girl gives a mysterious silver box to Gerry, her world self-destructs. Suddenly under constant mental attacks, the only person who can save her is her partner, Nicky–but nothing comes without a cost. Secrets buried deep in the past begin to rise, threatening everything she holds dear.
If she can’t out run her past, can she save her future?
When Olivia Hardin began having strange movie-like dreams in her teens, she had no choice but to begin putting them to paper. Before long the writing bug had her and she knew she wanted to be a published author. Several rejections plus a little bit of life later, and she was temporarily “cured” of the urge to write. That is until she met a group of talented and fabulous writers who gave her the direction and encouragement she needed to get lost in the words again.
Olivia’s attended three different universities over the years. She toyed with majors in Computer Technology, English, History and Geology until one day she heard the term road scholar and she knew that was what she wanted to be. Now she “studies” anything and everything just for the joy of learning. She’s also an insatiable crafter who only completes about 1 out of 5 projects, a jogger who hates to run, and she’s sometimes accused of being artistic.
A native Texas girl, Olivia lives in the beautiful Lone Star state with her husband, Danny and their puppy, Bonnie.
