Author Interview with January Bain

Hey, everyone. Today I’m hosting an author interview with January Bain, debut author of FOREVER MAN, a paranormal romance novel. In the interview, M: stands for everything I said, and J: is for everything January said.

The Interview

M: Hey January! Thanks for coming on my blog and answering my questions!

J: May I say how lovely it is to be here today! Thanks so much for having me visit, Majanka.

M:   When you did you know you wanted to become a writer, and why?

J: When I read my first book! I was one of the lucky ones that had their mother read to them as a small child. Thanks Mom!  I wanted to always be in that magical world that words can spin and becoming a storyteller was the way. I love to write and live in my imagination.

M:   What inspired you to write Forever Man?

J: I had lost two brothers to cancer and I was watching a move, The Green Mile, where one of the characters, a gentle giant, could heal cancer. I coveted that healing gift and wanted to feel it through a character. Ellie is a healer in Forever Man and very dear to my heart.

M: I’m sorry to hear about your brothers, and I applaud you for taking that sadness and using it to create something. That’s very brave.  Is Forever Man part of a series? If so, how many books are you planning?

J: Ah, the never-ending-series! I’m on the fifth book and feel there are more clamoring to come to life. So far we have Forever Man, Forever Woman, Forever Clan, Forever Angel and Forever Love.

M: Wow! That sure sounds like a lot! How do you find time to write in your daily life?

J: It’s easy if you are a workaholic! I teach full time at our local high school ten months of the year and write in every other moment possible. It’s become as necessary as breathing… Of course, that means giving up something. I don’t socialize as much as I should or clean the house for that matter!

M: Well, cleaning is over-rated anyway, if you ask me. Where do you write – your desk, the couch, a specific spot or just everywhere when inspiration pops up?

J: Everywhere! In bed, in my office, the couch, at school during the lunch hour, in the truck, in the sunroom, the kitchen, well, you get the idea!

M: Writing by hand, typewriter or computer?

J: Mostly computer, but I do take notes by hand in the dark when an idea wakes me up in the middle of the night or the computer is not right where I am for some reason.

M: I take notes by hand as well when I get random ideas all of the sudden. What character did you enjoy to write the most? Which character was the hardest to write down?

J: Good question! I love being the heroines and heroes that come to me to have their story told, but I did write about an evil character once and found that harder.

M: If you could do something differently about writing Forever Man, what would it be?

J: Another fabulous question because that has been on my mind lately, that is, how one’s writing changes in each succeeding book you write. But that said, though Forever Man was the first in what I now know will be a long journey, and though it is much less complex than what I am involved with now, it is a sweet story of joy and love that that I hope touches your heart. Of course, I wish I had the writing experience I have now when I wrote it. It’s been a few years and my writing has really stepped up its game.

M: What did you find the most difficult thing about the entire writing progress from draft to finish?

J: That’s easy! Having to slip from the story you are currently writing to edit an older story that is on the publisher’s or editor’s timeline. But that is part of the business and I have learned to turn on a dime when need be to give all my stories their proper due.

M: Are you currently working on something new? If so, can you tell us more about it?

J: Am I… I’ve had an explosion of ideas this summer. Left and right the characters and storylines have been coming in fast and furious. I currently have four in different stages of development. I didn’t know that unleashing one’s muse could cause such an avalanche of ideas to pour forth. I feel blessed for this journey and hope to share with readers and writers alike the fruits of my imagination. The second book in the Forever Series is coming in October, Forever Woman, and is so complex that a dear friend reading it said she could not put it down as she had to know what happened! Thanks, Nancy!

M: You’re lucky to have such an awesome friend! My muse tends to bombard me with ideas over summer as well, or when I’m in the middle of a project. I guess that’s the writer’s life – we’re never finished! Thanks for talking on my blog, January!
